Just take a look in that draw pile and see what you're likely to hit. Exhausting one of your better cards with a 0 cost Havoc is often worth it by itself if you can win the fight faster.
I think newer players tend to be afraid to exhaust cards but it's perfectly safe as long as you keep in mind what the rest of your deck looks like and how much longer the fight will go on. I'll also say with Ironclad, the temptation is to focus exclusively on strength, but don't overlook exhaust synergy. This is also why you want some source of card draw, whether it's a relic like Bag of Preparation or Centennial Puzzle or cards like Offering, Battle Trance, or at least a couple Shrugs.īasically, you need to get a feel for how much of each resource your deck actually needs, while planning ahead for what hallway fights, elites, and bosses you're likely to face. The bigger your deck gets with "not great, but better than a Strike or Defend" cards, the lower chance you have of drawing the cards that really make your deck. Your synergies don't mean much if you can't draw your most important cards when you need them. As TheMink said skipping cards is really important. I've beaten ascension 20 with Ironclad a bunch of times now. Then, based on the relics you've picked up you can kind of start to form synergies.Įdit- Also check out the other classes! You might find a playstyle you like better! If you like to just attack, check out the Watcher! She's more of a glass cannon so you can just try to burst everything down before the enemy takes a turn. If you drew Demon Form fighting Goblin Nob or Lagavulin you would likely either die or lose more HP than you needed to. That way you can kill the Act 1 elites and boss quickly (and preserve your HP!). If you read my post from the OT, I recommended pick up strong attack cards in Act 1, and try to pick up a AOE attack if possible (since you run into multiple mob fights like the birds in Act 2). Otherwise I start to pick them up mid Act 2 at the earliest. I usually don't take powers until the very end of Act 1 IF I managed to pick up some great cards. It also scales slowly, and it's preferable to finish hallway fights ASAP, making it only really worth it for boss fights.
I almost never take Demon Form or any Power card in Act 1 because it's not going to let me kill anything the turn I draw it, so it just clogs up my deck as dead weight. You also need to consider that your HP is a resource that needs to be managed as well. That means you won't be killing an enemy and thus reducing damage taken, or blocking and reducing damage. And obviously prioritise to remove cards that doesn't work in that combo or simply aren't good enough.ĭemon Form is very strong, but it costs 3 energy, which means you usually can only play that and nothing else during the turn. Just go all in and strength gain cards+limit break and attacks like Heavy Blow or things that strike more than once. With Ironclad strength builds are generally the easiest to get. When you feel like you're cheating, that is usually when you win. Second advice would be that this game is built on broken combos. So you can basically plan everything out. You can see the enemies next action and once you get more familiar with the game you'll also start to remember which action enemies are likely to take after the current one. This is a turn based game that basically gives you all the information you need at all times. One thing I'll say is that the best thing you can do if you are having a hard time, is to slow down and think about your actions. Unless you are going for the heart you can win most runs. Watch speed runners or the best steamers play this game. > Use Seeing red, use Double Tap, Use Whirlwind, if you have any strength Buff and more energy from relics, this will obliterate everyone.Ī question though, does every character has its own Ascencion progression or is it one and it's shared among all 4 characters? > Use Barricade, then Impervious, then Entrench then body slam. > Use Demon Form,, then Spot weakness, then limit Break+ every time you can, with Flex cards sprinkled around, You'll be over 30 strength in no time I am right now on ascension 9 and thaven't touched the other characters, only the Ironclad which is like the standard "warrior" class and as such you'll want to buff their strength to the max and deal regular damage with "0" cards like clash and anger, coupled with good decent decent strategies like Shrug-it-off's, Rages+ and occasionaly impervious.Ĭool synergies I found were (all cards in their + forms of course) Ok, so after two weeks, yeah there is a ton to learn but the game absolutely has the last say regarding whether you are going to make it through or not, the game is short and good enough that you'll want to try with different synergies and combinations.
